Self-Paced Learning for Young Designers

Our Self-Paced Design & Sewing Academy is a long-term creative program focused on design thinking, Dual Hands Learning, and developing a wide range of sewing, craft, and textile skills.

Students work with both hands throughout the creative process while learning to plan, experiment, solve problems, and transform their ideas into finished projects.

Each week introduces a new creative project, allowing students to gradually build skills while working at their own pace from home.

Before You Begin

This program includes both machine sewing and hand sewing.

If your child is new to sewing, we recommend starting with our Self-Paced Fun & Easy Sewing for Kids program first. Students can also take both programs at the same time while building their basic sewing skills.

Once they are comfortable with the fundamentals, they can continue developing their skills through the more advanced projects in the Self-Paced Design & Sewing Academy.

What Students Will Learn

Two students from Self-Paced Design and Sewing Program are showing there tode bags

Design Thinking — developing ideas, planning projects, experimenting, solving problems, and making creative decisions.

Sewing & Construction — building skills through hand sewing, machine sewing, pattern making, and construction.

Craft & Textile Techniques — exploring embroidery, crochet, fabric, texture, color, and a variety of creative techniques.

Dual Hands Learning — using both hands throughout cutting, measuring, threading, stitching, crocheting, constructing, and creating.

Creative Independence — learning to work through a project independently and transform an idea into a finished design.

How It Works

Students follow step-by-step video lessons and complete each project at their own pace from home.

A new creative project is introduced every week, allowing students to continue developing their skills over time without the pressure of keeping up with a classroom schedule.

They can pause, repeat a lesson, or spend additional time on a technique whenever needed.

What You’ll Need

At the beginning of each month, families receive a materials list for the upcoming projects, so you know exactly what to prepare in advance.

Students will also need access to a sewing machine for projects that include machine sewing.
